Ring Type Joints (RTJ)

Ring type joints excel in high-pressure applications such as oil and gas exploration and production. RTJs are also used on valves and pipework assemblies in refineries and other process industries.

Available in both oval and octagonal profiles, standard style R ring type joints are manufactured to meet both API 6A and ASME B16.20 sizes and ratings. Also available are Style RX ring type joints which energizes on assembly. This type is designed to fit the same groove as a style R therefore making them interchangeable. For very high pressures, often found in sub-sea wellhead and Christmas tree systems, the style BX is used. Subsea versions of all styles are available with pressure balance holes.

We also design and manufacture special RTJ and bespoke solid metal gaskets for topside and subsea blow-out preventers.

RTJ gaskets can be supplied in a wide range of stainless steels, Inconel alloys and other specialist metals. Coatings available include zinc, Xylan and silver.

  • Style BX

    Style BX

    The Style BX ring type joint is manufactured in accordance with API 6A. All BX ring type joints incorporate a pressure passage hole to allow for pressure equalization each side of the sealing faces. On assembly, metal to metal contact of the flange faces is achieved. The Style BX is not interchangeable with any other style, and is only suited for API 6BX flanges. Style BX ring type joints are designed to seal pressure up to 20,000 psi in accordance with API 6A pressure ratings.

    We can also offer Style SBX RTJ’s which have two pressure passage holes making the gasket suitable for subsea installation.

  • Style R

    Style R

    The Style R ring type joint is manufactured in accordance with API 6A and ASME B16.20, to suit API 6B and ASME B16.5 flanges. Style R ring type joints are manufactured in both oval and octagonal configurations. Both styles are interchangeable on the modern flat bottom groove, however only the oval style can be used in the old type round bottom groove. Style R ring type joints are designed to seal pressure up to 6,250 psi in accordance with ASME B16.5 pressure ratings and up to 5,000 psi in accordance with API 6A pressure ratings.

    The Style RX ring type joint is manufactured in accordance with API 6A and ASME B16.20, to suit API 6B and ASME B16.5 flanges.
    Style RX ring type joints are manufactured in both oval and octagonal configurations. Both styles are interchangeable on the modern flat bottom groove, however only the oval style can be used in the old type round bottom groove.

  • Style FRG-RJ

    Style FRG-RJ

    Ring Joint flanges are the most common area for leaks, typically due to corrosion.  The FRG-RJ combats this problem.
    The FRG-RJ is suitable for both topside and subsea applications where improved corrosion resistance or prevention is required. As with all our FRG’s, it can also be used on flanges that have been damaged due to corrosion in maintenance activities.

    The RTJ-KAMM gasket combines the high pressure seal of an RTJ with the low stress sealing of a Flexpro Kammprofile.
    The sealing faces are serrated and faced which means this style is ideal for use with damaged flange grooves or in low load applications.
